**** 11 – 1pm: Classical Arabic Technique & Rhythm for Doumbek with Jeremiah Soto $20 ($30 Day of Class)
Classical Arabic Style is passed down as an oral tradition. The technique is very specific, and aims to create a more defined vocabulary of sounds from the dumbek. This is accomplished by using specific hand positions and striking techniques. While using familiar and traditional Middle Eastern rhythms, the execution of the rhythms is different, in that it utilizes timing and space which, for example, distinguishes an Arabic beledi from an American beledi.
Intermediate Class— Intermediate technique: half-tek, slaps, snaps        Exercises: right-left-right, triplets, rolls        Rhythms in the Classical Arabic Style utilizing intermediate techniques: Adoni, Samai, Persian, Beledi, Dawr Hindi

In 1995, Jeremiah released the first Solace album Rhythm of the Dance. Since then Jeremiah as released eight Solace albums, with a new project due out on Auguest 2006. Jeremiah also has expanded Eventide Music Productions, his independent record label to include Tim Rayborn, Dann Torres’ Knossos, Ruben van Rompaey, and Maduro.

Jeremiah hopes to break the confines of typical Middle Eastern Dance Music & inspire others through his unique compositional style and love of Arabic rhythms and music. Solace music is not just great belly dancing music; it is a journey into the heart and mind, a journey where others fear to tread. www.empcds.com www.soundofsolace.com
