You look like a million bucks in that expensive costume you just bought. Now your face has to match! Well-done stage make-up will enhance your features and hide your flaws. We will go over a step-by-step make-up map, getting your face ready for performance. Learn how to apply false eyelashes like a seasoned pro! Also: tips for photographic make-up (both color and black and white) and tricks for fantasy fun, like going wild with glitter, bindis and color. A clearly illustrated “face map” and notes are included. Please bring a set of false eyelashes, eyelash glue, and your own make-up and applicators. It’s time to strut like a show girl and learn to tease a la Gypsy Rose Lee in the retro-burlesque style! Technique covered: cute entrances and exits; showgirl walks, boa work, bumps and grinds and basic strip tease mechanics. We will also touch upon costuming and burlesque attitude. Princess Farhana is not only a belly dancer, but for eleven years starred in America’s premiere neo-burlesque troupe, The Velvet Hammer and is currently the principle dancer in Margaret Cho’s touring burlesque/variety show, “The Sensuous Woman”. Learn about the Burlesque/Belly Dance connections, the legendary stars of burlesque, and burlesque history from the turn of the century to modern times.

Make your performance sizzle! This introduction to combining fire fans, fingers and torches with belly dance will teach you how to integrate fire into the moves you already know. Designed for the belly dancer looking to add fire into their routine, some belly dance experience is helpful, but not required. Workshop will include a fire fusion choreography. The class will not include live fire during class. Please wear comfortable clothing that is not in the way, and is preferably not noisy.

Tribe Marrakech and Paprika bring to you an evening of extraordinary aerial acts, whirling, twirling, swirling hula-hoop artistry, hot fire dancing, and the oh so irresistible burlesque temptress, PRINCESS FARHANA. Count on plenty of sideshow circus entertainment and hilarity, this will truly be an evening like no other. Special musical guests include the local favorites, Kara Nomadica, and DJ Ricky. Included: a rigorous shimmy drill combined with slow hand and arm movements; shimmies layered over stationary and traveling steps as well as figure eights; Oriental combinations mixing slow-into-fast movements with unusual angles and eye-catching level changes and turns. In this workshop, techniques & concepts will be taught for serpentine movements that give the illusion of bonelessness & flexibility with focuses on fluid waves, defined undulations, smooth weight-shifts & level-changes. The workshop will consist of a warm-up to develop strength & flexibility, specific explanations of skeletal & muscular isolations, a choreography, cool-downs, moving meditation & a q+a session.
